Augustin takes advantage of his work-related trips to get to know the region. He's only been here for a few months as an assistant to the johtonian embassador and although he's read books and has talked to people, he indulges in walks away from the busy cities once in a while.

Grim is sniffing yet another bush, exploring every inch of the surrounding landscape with much more enthusiasm than his trainer.

The young man gives the Houndoom a small pat on the head as he approaches the lakeside, expression vacant. He sees a few people -- mostly families and lone trainers -- refreshing themselves on the other side of the lake, but this side is thankfully empty.

"Grim," he calls out. The Houndoom is by his side in an instant, tongue lolling out and a few blades of grass stuck in his fur.

It was a few hours before he had to go back to work. He sits on the grass and stretches his legs, taking a book from his satchel and diving into it.

Augustin doesn't immediately notice when the Houndoom starts growling, but as the sound rises in volume, the young man forces his eyes to drift from the book in his hand to the wild Pokémon lingering at the edges of the bushes.

Grim, Augustin knows, is very protective of him -- he was supposed to be. Because of that, Augustin usually has an alarm every time a wild Pokémon, especially a bigger or stronger one, approaches them in their walks. He had never seen a Shiftry in person, though, and he must admit that there's a lingering curiosity in his mind. There's something about its stealthy approach, the gleam of the eyes beneath its mask-like face...

And what Augustin is curious about he studies until his curiosity is sated and packed away.

"Grim, go."

The Houndoom knows what to do, and his eyes glow an ominous reddish orange. Inspired by his own NASTY PLOT, the Houndoom opens his mouth and spews forth a FLAMETHROWER directly at the Shiftry.

If he could weaken the Shiftry enough, Augustin would then attempt to catch it. His eyes follow the fight with calculated awareness, awaiting the right time to launch the Pokéball already in his hand.
